PETER KIRK EUROPEAN TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP

Applications can be submitted by citizens of ANY European country. Candidates from countries other than the UK and Ireland would normally be expected to do the major part of their project in the UK – however, those who are already familiar with life in Britain may choose to do projects anywhere in Europe apart from their home country.

It is essential that you are prepared to travel abroad independently. Although you are not required to be a specialist in modern languages you will need to gather information on your project from conversations with people as well as from books and other media. You should, therefore, be confident that you will be able to talk to the people you meet in the country(ies) you visit.

When drawing up the list of candidates to be interviewed, and when deciding who should be awarded scholarships the selectors consider academic qualifications to be less important than enthusiasm and the ability to carry through an independent project in a foreign country.

Applicants are required to have been in full-time education at some time during the 12 months preceding their application and should be aged between 18 and 26 at the time they travel (under some circumstances an older candidate up to age 29 might be considered).

Special conditions are attached to two of the scholarships:

  • One is reserved for an agricultural or associated subject (code A);

  • One award, from the French Huguenot Church, gives preference to the members of that church and those of French Huguenot descent (code F).

To submit an application download the application form, complete it, and send to mail@kirkfund.org.uk to arrive by Monday, 8th November 2010 at the latest.
